Thomas Telford School

Management of the Fitness Centre

Formula GFi have worked with Thomas Telford school since May 2007 when the school opened their innovative, state of the art fitness suite. This is an assosiation FGFi are very proud of as Thomas Telford are recognised as the leading comprehensive school in England and have a strong sporting and fitness ethos. Our role is to manage the school’s fitness suite and to work alongside the PE department delivering high quality fitness based PE lessons to all year groups. Work includes contributing to GCSE, BTEC and A level courses. In addition to that we are provide fitness industry vocational training to the students of the school, putting around sixty budding young fitness professionals through various vocational qualifications each academic year. Some of whom are even employed by us during their time at Thomas Telford School. In fact, we now have 4 ex Thomas Telford Students in our employ as budding fitness professionals! Since opening over three years ago our aim has been to develop the school’s use of this great facility year on year. The progrss that the students have madein their knowledge of fitness is remarkable - the average Thomas Telford 11 year old now knows exercises that most gym- going adults have never before encountered. Out enthusiastic staff at the school, led by Tom Griffin have done a fantastic job motivating the students and we now have an average of over 700 students per week from all year groups using the fitness centre during school time and as an after school activity. This is a mark of how popular the facility is and an indication of how fit the population of the school are...a very positive thought in light of the country’s current childhood obesity problem!
